Chelsea defender Landon Emenalo has signed a new contract, one which ties him to the Blues until 2031.
It’s a sign of how highly rated the 18 year old is that he’s getting such a heavy duty deal as his second professional contract.
The son of former Chelsea sporting director Michael, Emenalo has emerged as one of the rising stars at Cobham, and is expected to make his first team debut soon.
The versatile talent has been with the Blues since Under-8 level, and the club are making sure they tie him down to a long deal before his breakthrough. Now a star of the Under-21s, he took part in some of Mauricio Pochettino’s training sessions as a 16 year old, and featured on the bench several times when Enzo Maresca was in charge.
His youth team career has seen him play at left back, centre back and in midfield, and it seems like the latter role as a defensive midfielder is where his senior future could be – that’s what John Terry thinks, at least.
Now he’s tied to a long deal, we expect a loan move to come sooner rather than later for the youngster, and we can’t wait to see how he gets on in the senior game. Could we even see a move to Strasbourg? So far it’s not been common for academy players to make that switch – this could be the time to start.
The latest TransferMarkt update has 3 Chelsea players in the top 10 most valuable U21 players in the league.
Moises Caicedo has become the first player of the season to reach 50 in a key midfielder stat.
