Chelsea travel to Paris tonight with renewed optimism and a squad close to full strength as they prepare for a significant Champions League encounter. Liam Rosenior’s side face Paris Saint Germain at the Parc des Princes in a match that could shape their European campaign, and the Chelsea predicted lineup is beginning to take clearer form following encouraging fitness updates.
This fixture carries added intrigue given the recent history between the two clubs. Chelsea defeated PSG in the Club World Cup final last summer, and another meeting now arrives on one of Europe’s biggest stages.
Preparation for the trip to France has been helped by a welcome development on the injury front. Reece James returned to training at Cobham earlier this week, offering Rosenior an important option ahead of kick off.

Jamie Gittens was also pictured in training but did not travel with the squad for the match in Paris.

Levi Colwill has likewise resumed work with the first team following a long recovery from a serious knee injury suffered during pre season training. Although his return to training represents progress, he will not feature in this fixture.
Cole Palmer trained with the squad on Tuesday, providing a further boost for Chelsea’s attacking plans. Estevao, however, remains unavailable as he continues an individual recovery programme following a hamstring injury that proved more serious than initially expected.

These developments leave Rosenior with a near full group from which to shape his Chelsea predicted lineup.
Rosenior is expected to field his strongest available side for the challenge against PSG. One key tactical question centres on the role of Reece James.
The defender could start in midfield rather than at right back. Malo Gusto handled media duties during the pre match press conference in Paris, which may suggest he will occupy the right flank in defence.

If James moves into midfield, Andrey Santos could be the player to step aside after featuring in the recent trip to Wrexham.
Goalkeeper selection also remains under consideration. Robert Sanchez lost his starting place during the away victory against Aston Villa, when Filip Jorgensen featured in a team that secured a convincing 4-1 win.
Sanchez returned in the FA Cup against Wrexham but endured a difficult performance, conceding twice against the Championship opposition.
Rosenior therefore faces a delicate call between experience and recent form as he finalises the lineup.
