Filipe Luís, sacked by Flamengo on three March after the Madureira semi-final, has emerged as a Chelsea target for the remainder of the season. According to Topskills Sports UK, the club are assessing internally whether to dismiss Liam Rosenior to facilitate an approach.

Even so, the hierarchy are not focused on removing Rosenior at this stage of the campaign, though pressure remains for improved performances.

Chelsea dismissed Enzo Maresca in early January. Results briefly improved, then dipped again. They sit sixth in the Premier League and are out of the Champions League.

The ex-Flamengo coach could become the club’s third manager in a little under a year. He is currently unattached and was targeted by Cruzeiro, but he has prioritised a European post and ruled out taking the Cruzeiro job.

Flamengo quickly replaced him with Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim, formerly of Cruzeiro. Jardim has overseen five matches, delivering four wins, one draw and the Campeonato Carioca title.

As a player, Filipe Luís spent June 2014 to July 2015 at Chelsea, forging strong relationships. He has had contact with BlueCo, the company that manages Chelsea and Strasbourg.
