So far, the Blues have taken seven points from four matches, with their most recent result being a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Hull City.

With Chelsea statistically having one of the toughest starts to the season compared to their other 'Big Six' rivals, that challenge has been further complicated by injuries.

Ecuadorian star Moises Caicedo has so far missed three of a possible four league games, while the one appearance he did make in the 4-3 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion saw the 24-year-old withdrawn just 14 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Caicedo’s absence has been a major blow for new boss Xabi Alonso. After sanctioning the sale of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City in a £125 million deal, the Blues have been left short in midfield, which has seen both Reece James and Malo Gusto occupy that area of the pitch.

Those problems could continue as, according to Sky Sports, both Moises Caicedo and Reece James missed the first part of the open training session on September 15. Joao Pedro was also absent from the beginning of the session.

The Brazilian star has been on fire at Stamford Bridge, with six goal contributions in the opening four Premier League matches of the season. The 24-year-old’s start to the season has also received recognition across the league, recently being crowned the Player of the Month for August.

With Chelsea not playing until September 18, there’s still plenty of time to monitor the situation, and Alonso is likely to provide a further update on September 17 in his pre-match press conference. If Pedro were to miss the Brentford clash, then summer signing Danny Welbeck would likely be called into the side. The former Brighton man has scored three goals so far, all coming in the Carabao Cup.

In more positive developments, summer signing Marco Palestra has been spotted in team training for the first time since the Italian last played 76 minutes in the 3-1 pre-season victory over Real Sociedad on August 15.

The 21-year-old made the switch to Stamford Bridge after completing a £47 million move, including add-ons, from Serie A side Atalanta on July 1. Despite his participation in the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, the Italian has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Blues after being sidelined with a quad injury.

New signing Jordan Henderson continues to work his way back to full fitness after picking up an arm injury at the World Cup. The Englishman could be in line to face the Bees, a former club of the 36-year-old.
