Cole Palmer was key to Chelsea's win over Brighton at the end of August.
We may only be two games into the 2026/27 Premier League season, but as we head into September, the monthly nominations for August’s awards have been revealed.
Victories over both Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion have seen Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea side take maximum points so far. The Blues are just one of four sides to achieve that feat, along with Arsenal, Hull City and Manchester City.
Following their perfect start, the Blues have representation in the Premier League Player of the Month, Manager of the Month and Goal of the Month awards.
Chelsea’s attack has been at the forefront of the successful start to the campaign, scoring seven goals across two matches, and that has been recognised by the panel. Both Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer have been nominated at the first available opportunity.
Cole Palmer has started the season with a point to prove following his omission from Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad. The England boss was in the stands to see Palmer score the decisive goal as the Blues overcame a short scare to beat Brighton 4-3.
The previous week, Palmer was also on the scoresheet as Chelsea edged Fulham 3-2 at Craven Cottage. The 24-year-old also played in Joao Pedro for an assist inside a minute.
In addition to Palmer, Joao Pedro has also been nominated for the monthly award following his strong start. With fears of the number nine ‘curse’ coming back to haunt the west London side, the Brazilian made sure to put them to bed as he opened the scoring after just 31 seconds on the opening day.
With former Chelsea boss and current Brazilian national team coach Carlo Ancelotti in the stands for the Brighton game, Pedro found the net for a second successive week and, just like Tuchel, Ancelotti must have been left kicking himself for his exclusion.
Joining the Chelsea duo to make up the nominations are Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal), Rayan Cherki (Manchester City), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Mamadou Sangare (Brentford), Konstantinos Tzolakis (Hull City) and Yoane Wissa (Newcastle United).
Xabi Alonso’s start at Stamford Bridge is also up for recognition. The 44-year-old Spaniard has enjoyed a winning start at Stamford Bridge, becoming the first manager since Thomas Tuchel in 2021 to win his opening two Premier League matches.
Joining Alonso for the award are Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Sergej Jakirovic (Hull City) and Enzo Maresca (Manchester City).
Palmer has also been nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for his second-half strike against Brighton. The England international is looking to win the award for a third time after picking up the accolade in April and August 2024. He is joined by seven other names, with fans able to help him win the award.
