Chelsea are unlikely to enter the race to sign PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with the club ‘relaxed’ about their current options.

Donnarumma is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain after failing to agree a new contract with the club. The European champions have signed Lucas Chevalier as a replacement for the Italian, who has less 12 months to run on his contract in Paris.

Donnarumma was left out of the PSG squad for their UEFA Super Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur and took to social media to confirm his imminent exit.

Manchester City are exploring a deal to sign the 26-year-old, while Manchester United have also been credited as suitors amid reservations over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Chelsea considered signing a new number one earlier in the transfer window, having made an approach to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan. However, they are unlikely to battle the Manchester clubs in the race to sign Donnarumma.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea are ‘relaxed’ about their goalkeeping options. Robert Sanchez has started the season as number one, with Filip Jorgensen the current deputy at Stamford Bridge.

“There’s been goalkeeper rumours about Chelsea since they tried to sign Mike Maigan for €15m at the beginning of June, and Milan said no,” Romano told the Here We Go podcast.

“Since that moment, Chelsea were always very clear on their position. No intention to sign a goalkeeper. They trust Robert Sanchez, trust Filip Jorgensen, and Mike Penders is seen as the goalkeeper of the future.”

Chelsea consider Penders as a future number one with the teenager currently on loan at Strasbourg. The Blues believe Penders, who joined from Genk this summer, will become an ‘elite’ goalkeeper.
