Chelsea Verbally Agree Two New Contract Extension After Joao Pedro & Neto Announcements | OneFootball

Pedro Neto is the latest Chelsea player to sign a new contract.

Chelsea have verbally agreed new contracts for two further players, according to reports.

The Blues have been busy throughout the summer, both sorting incomings and departures, as well as tying players in their current squad to new deals.

After extending Moises Caicedo's contract towards the end of last season, Joao Pedro was handed fresh terms after his impressive debut season for Chelsea following last summer's switch from Brighton and Hove Albion.

In 35 Premier League appearances, the Brazil international scored 15 goals and contributed eight assists. Joao Pedro also played a vital role in Chelsea's Club World Cup triumph. He would have felt hard done by after missing out on Brazil's World Cup squad.

But a summer off to rest and recover has paid off. He has already hit the ground running this season, scoring three and contributing as many assists in just four league games. This comes after being handed the number 9 shirt following Liam Delap's departure to Nottingham Forest.

Throughout the summer transfer window, speculation about Pedro Neto's future continued. He attracted interest from Manchester City, Tottenham and Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

Chelsea set an asking price of around £100m for Neto, who was not considered untouchable, indicating that the Blues would consider suitable offers.

But Neto ended up remaining at Stamford Bridge, and has offered manager Xabi Alonso a strong option to play as a wing-back in the preferred three-back system. Neto came on against Leeds United to score and help the team overturn a 2-0 deficit to ensure they progressed into round four of the Carabao Cup.

Because of his loyalty and commitment to the club, Chelsea handed Neto an extended deal that includes a pay rise, showing they will reward players when needed.

But Chelsea aren't expected to stop there. As reported by the Daily Telegraph, at least two other Chelsea players have verbally agreed to new deals before further announcements are made.

Who that is remains unclear. Levi Colwill has previously been suggested to have been close to agreeing to new terms with Chelsea.

Highly-rated Josh Acheampong's current terms run until the summer of 2029, so Chelsea will want to ensure his long-term future is committed to the club.

Malo Gusto was in a similar situation to Neto over the summer. Clubs showed interest, but no acceptable offer arrived. Could they offer him new terms in the same way and view it as protecting the value of their asset?
