The Blues look to reverse their fortunes after a challenging spell
Enzo Maresca will hope to get Chelsea back to winning ways tonight as they host Jose Mourinho’s Benfica in the Champions League. It has been a tough spell for the Blues, who have won just one of their last four matches and come into this match with a swathe of first-team players out injured. Cole Palmer is the most notable absentee, and he joins centre-backs Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo in the physio’s office.
After being comfortably beaten by Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener, the Blues are in dire need of a win to lift spirits at the club, but they have their work cut out for them as they look to steady their shaky form. Mourinho is undefeated after three matches as Benfica head coach, and will open his continental campaign tonight.
The Portuguese giants fell to a shock defeat at the hands of Azerbaijani side Qarabag on matchday one, meaning they are in need of a statement win. Follow along below with our dedicated match blog, complete with expert insight and analysis from Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge!
