Xabi Alonso's Chelsea are back in action on Thursday night when they face Luton Town in the Carabao Cup second round.

Chelsea are hoping to make it two wins from two this week after Monday's 3-2 win over Fulham in their Premier League opener, which saw attacking trio Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro light up the west London derby to all score and start their season in winning fashion.

After failing to qualify for European football this season, Chelsea have entered the Carabao Cup at the earlier round of round two, instead of the third round when European-playing sides enter.

It offers Alonso a unique chance to play an extra game at the start of the season, which he will no doubt see as a benefit, allowing him to continue instilling his ideas in the team in match conditions.

They come up against a Luton side, currently in League One, who progressed past Gillingham with a 3-0 win away from home earlier this month to secure their place in the second round.

Chelsea will hope to progress without issues, heading into the tie as heavy favourites. Luton, managed by Jack Wilshere, have nothing to lose and will be hoping to cause a huge upset.

Summer signings Valentin Barco and Danny Welbeck will be pushing to start at Stamford Bridge, while Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian could start in attack.
