Bank Holiday Monday action from Stamford Bridge as Chelsea bid to end bad run in Premier League
Cole Palmer missed a penalty as Chelsea slumped to defeat against Nottingham Forest. Despite Vitor Pereira making eight changes to his Forest side, with one eye on Thursday’s Europa League semi-final second leg away at Aston Villa, the visitors strolled to victory at Stamford Bridge.
Taiwo Awoniyi netted twice in west London, right at the start of both halves, and Igor Jesus successfully converted his penalty to move Forest six points clear of the relegation zone with three matches to play. For Chelsea, it is a sixth consecutive Premier League defeat and it looked like their wait for a goal was going to continue after Palmer had his penalty saved by Matz Sels just before half-time and Joao Pedro had a goal disallowed in the second half.
The Brazilian, however, did find the back of the net with a stunning acrobatic effort in stoppage time, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
