Tottenham’s dreadful Premier League season continued with yet another defeat on Thursday night at the hands of London rivals Chelsea.
Cole Palmer ended a run of 10 games without a goal or assist for Chelsea, providing a sumptuous cross for Enzo Fernandez to head home the game’s only goal.
Tottenham have always struggled at Chelsea and this defeat stretched their winless run at Stamford Bridge to nine games in all competitions.
The Blues have now kept clean sheets in three consecutive Premier League home games, winning their last five and putting themselves firmly in the race for Champions League football as a result, with just two points separating them from fourth placed Manchester City, and on from Newcastle United in fifth.
While Tottenham’s focus is evidently on the Europa League at this stage of the season, recent domestic performances will worry under pressure manager Ange Postecoglou.
His side are now winless in four in the Premier League and have failed to score in four of their last six in all competitions.
Robert Sanchez: 81%
Although he only had to make two saves, those shots were equal to 0.74 goals prevented and he completed six long passes, three of which went straight through to Tottenham’s final third.
Marc Cucurella: 68%
A solid, if unspectacular outing from the Spanish full-back. Won three tackles and made two clearances but offered little in possession.
Trevoh Chalobah: 72%
Didn’t lose a single aerial or ground duel during the game and backed that up with one big chance created, completing 49 of his 54 attempted passes throughout the game.
Levi Colwill: 61 %
Took the joint-most touches of any Chelsea player with 74, completing 58 passes include eight long passes – but didn’t win a single tackle and only won three possessions in the defensive third.
Malo Gusto: 63%
Malo Gusto was able to make two interceptions and complete six clearances as part of a solid defensive display from the Blues’ backline.
Enzo Fernandez: 80%
Aside from scoring the only goal of the game, the Argentinian also completed the second-highest amount of final third passes with 16 and attempted a joint-high three take-ons in a fine performance.
Moises Caicedo: 66%
Although offering little in terms of creativity, Caicedo was particularly impressive in the first half, winning four tackles and completing every one of his attempted 23 passes – although four of his 18 did go astray in the second half.
Cole Palmer: 76%
Ended a long wait for a goal or assist by supplying a fantastic cross for Enzo Fernandez to head home. Both of his shots were on target and he created one other chance in a much improved display.
Pedro Neto: 64%
Created two chances, one classified as a big chance and took two shots during the game. However, both of those shots were off target and his two take-on attempts were not completed.
Jadon Sancho: 65%
Managed an impressive five ball recoveries and seven touches in the opposition box in his 68 minutes. Did however miss a big chance with his one shot on target just before the half-time whistle.
Nicolas Jackson: 44%
Far from a vintage performance from Jackson, who completed just eight passes and took two low-percentage shots for an xG of only 0.14.
Guglielmo Vicario: 81%
Saved four of the five shots he faced, three of which came from inside the box. Was wrong-footed for the only goal of the game.
Destiny Udogie: 64%
Tried to get into dangerous attacking areas, taking six touches in the Chelsea box and completing six passes into the final third, but ultimately couldn’t create any chances for his side.
Micky van de Ven: 62%
Only completed two long passes and won just two tackles, but did at least complete more clearances than any outfield Tottenham player with six.
Cristian Romero: 64%
Completed just two of eight attempted long passes and lost his only aerial duel. He was at least consistent with his shorter passing, completing 48 of his other 50 passes.
Djed Spence: 63%
Playing a rare game on his favoured right side, Spence did manage to make five clearances and win two aerial duels but was a little careless in the lead up to the Chelsea goal.
Lucas Bergvall: 62%
Had just 31 touches and offered little with the ball but did okay out of possession, completing two clearances and two interceptions as well as winning one tackle.
Rodrigo Bentancur: 65%
The Uruguayan completed 51 of his 55 passes, but only nine of those were forward passes and he was dispossessed from a poor touch on two occassions.
James Maddison: 60%
Although he did create Tottenham’s one big chance and completed 34 of his 35 passes, Maddison was unable to complete either of his two attempted crosses and won possession for his team just once in his 88 minutes.
Son Heung-min: 65%
Missed Tottenham’s biggest chance of the game with his one shot on target scoring an xG of 0.59, but did at least register two shots and complete 13 passes in the final third, the most of any Spurs player.
Wilson Odobert: 61%
A largely anonymous display from the ex-Burnley man who completed only 18 passes and was dispossessed on three occasions, more than any other player on the field. Did at least create on chance for Spurs.
Dominic Solanke: 40%
No player took fewer touches than Dominic Solanke with just 21. The former Bournemouth man didn’t register a shot, won possession in the final third just once and completed a measly six passes.
Squawka’s new player rating system is wholly stats-based. Player scores are based on the numbers they put up across a range of on-ball events, from goals scored to tackles won.
We tailored each score to the players’ respective positions using extensive research and expertise. For example, forwards are rated on metrics like shots on target, touches in the opposition box, and big chances created. Meanwhile, centre-backs are rewarded for winning aerial duels, making blocks, successful long-range passes, etc.
