The Sky Blues are nearing their first return to the top flight since the 00/01 season
Details have emerged regarding Frank Lampard's initial Premier League transfer plans at Coventry City, and it involves Chelsea.
The Sky Blues are nearing their first return to the top flight since the 00/01 season, topping the Championship table with 85 points so far.
So it's perhaps not a surprise to learn that Lampard is already trying to get a potential move in place for when the inevitable happens, whilst leaning on the side he used to play for and manage.
However, there doesn't seem to be much chance that whatever move Lampard wants will be a straightforward one…

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Frank Lampard has already outlined plans to secure a season-long loan for highly-rated Chelsea starlet Jesse Derry as Coventry gear up for Premier League football.
Yet, as previously mentioned, the Blues' stance promises to make any deal far from smooth.
The 18-year-old winger, who only made his senior Chelsea debut in February during a 4-0 FA Cup win over Hull City, has reportedly caught Lampard's eye due to being both young and having 'high-potential'.
Derry, whose dad Shaun played for the likes of Crystal Palace and Leeds United, has seven goals and four assists for the Blues' U21 this season.
Sources have indicated to TEAMtalk that Derry is towards the top of Coventry's shortlist for the summer window, with Lampard being described as a “strong admirer” of the teenager.
Chelsea, however, reportedly have major long-term ambitions for Derry - viewing him as someone who could force his way into Liam Rosenior’s plans within the next year.
As per the aforementioned report, no final decision has been reached on allowing Derry out, even temporarily.

Along with Chelsea reportedly weighing up Frank Lampard’s transfer request to take Derry on loan, interest isn’t limited to Coventry either.
TEAMtalk goes on to mention how multiple clubs are monitoring the youngster's situation, yet it's unclear whether said clubs are in the Premier League or not.
As for Derry, he let his contract expire at Crystal Palace last year before signing a four-year deal until 2029 with the Blues, rejecting advances from other clubs in England and abroad.
Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke even revealed via X that Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid were all interested in his signature at that time.
In a feature published by The BBC's Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella a few months later, it was known that Derry supported Chelsea growing up - so the youngster might want to do all he can do to break into their first-team as early as possible.
As one of his apparent reasons for leaving Palace was because of their track record at bringing academy players through to the first team - whereas Chelsea's ex-manager Enzo Maresca gave a record eight debuts to Cobham graduates in 24/25.
Ultimately, while Lampard's promotion success positions Coventry for a splashy Premier League return after 25 years away, prising Derry from Chelsea's grasp may test their pull.
As the summer window looms, this could develop into somewhat of a transfer saga, especially if multiple clubs are interested in taking the winger on loan.
