Chelsea weighing up move for Douglas Luiz

Chelsea are weighing up a loan move for Douglas Luiz (27) as they look to strengthen their midfield options for the second half of the season.

According to The Athletic, the Brazil international is under consideration despite currently being on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus. Luiz has found regular minutes hard to come by at the City Ground, making 13 appearances since his arrival in August, and a change of scenery could offer a route back to consistent top-level football.

Chelsea believe Luiz would be a strong tactical fit for head coach Liam Rosenior, providing experience, composure, and versatility in the centre of the pitch. With the club competing on multiple fronts, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup, squad depth is a growing priority as the season enters a decisive phase.

While Chelsea already boast a number of midfield options, injuries have disrupted their plans. Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo have both endured fitness problems, limiting their availability, while the workload on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez has been heavy. Luiz’s ability to operate as a defensive midfielder or box-to-box presence is seen as an attractive solution.

No formal approach has yet been made, but discussions are understood to be ongoing as Chelsea explore the feasibility of a deal. For Luiz, the prospect of joining a title-challenging side could prove an appealing next step.
