Former Chelsea left back Patrick van Aanholt has been speaking about Jorrel Hato and his first season in the Premier League after signing from Ajax last summer.

“I told him at the start of the season: You’re going to have to get used to the Premier League,” Van Aanholt explained in quotes for Voetbal Primeur.

“He got his matches, ended up on the bench, and now, after the winter break, I don’t know what he did.

“He has developed to such an extent that he has played his way into the starting lineup. I think that a fit Hato is one of the better left-backs out there.”

Hato’s solid start in difficult season

It’s certainly impressive to see how Hato has risen up the pecking order at centre back, where he was preferred to Mamadou Sarr and Tosin against Man City and Everton in our last two Premier League games.

He’s still got plenty of developing to do, but the potential is clear, both at left back and centre back.
