Enzo Maresca was interviewed on BBC’s Match of the Day last night where he was forced to try and explain a painful defeat for his team.
Chelsea were 1-0 up, but then conceded to a long throw. In the 93rd minute, they conceded again and lost the game.

Enzo Maresca speaks in his press conference.
“We started well with the ball but we were losing the second balls and against these sort of teams you have to know how to deal with that and overall we were not good enough,” the Chelsea coach said.
“It was not one of our best performances. You can drop points against any team if you do not perform at 100%. I think when you lose a game like today it is not just about one player, we were not good enough in general and it is something we need to learn soon as the Premier League is full of these games.”
Well we’re 15 months into his time as manager, any chance of the team figuring things out soon? These players shouldn’t need to “learn” that the Premier League is hard, they’re playing it every week.
For once we’d like an answer with some specifics from this coach about what is going wrong and how he intends to fix it. Is that too much to ask? This vague waffle about being not good enough doesn’t convince anyone that things are going to change in the long run.
Trevoh Chalobah was also asked to explain the defeat, and he really struggled to come up with anything, much like his manager. At least he stood up to be counted.
It wasn’t just defensively that the Blues struggled – Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu were anonymous up top, raising major questions about our attacking system.
