Chelsea are taking on Cardiff in the EFL Cup tonight, and the Blues are doing all they can to make sure they win.

It is our final game against lower league opposition for some time, and a final chance to rotate the team a little, but Enzo Maresca and Chelsea are still hoping desperately to win. To that end, they’ve made a decision to weaken Cardiff.

Ruthless Chelsea put red cross over Kellyman

Omari Kellyman has had a disaster career at Chelsea so far, coming in for a crazy £19m price tag then spending his whole first season injured. But this year he’s been on loan with Cardiff and has found his feet, starting and now scoring occasionally to.

But despite wanting his development to continue, Chelsea aren’t going to let him play tonight. According to the Sun, Chelsea blocked the request from the Welsh team to allow their loanee to play against them.

“Cardiff remained hopeful that Chelsea would give permission for their highly-rated talent to be involved.

But the Club World Cup winners refused to give written permission and Kellyman will have to watch from the stands.”

It’s ruthless, but you can understand why. There’s a lot at stake here, and the weaker Cardiff are the fewer first team players we will need to use in the game. Even Kellyman will probably understand – there’s no shortage of games in the Championship for him to play anyway.

In other news…

Chelsea are looking to make more moves in January, as ever, and their latest interest is in Cassiano Kiala of Bayern Munich, whose father has been in London for talks with the Blues and another Premier League club.

Enzo Maresca’s comments from Saturday still are ringing in the air – Simon Jordan had an interesting theory on what was going on with the coach after his amazing outburst.
