Chelsea’s summer transfer is “unbelievable in training” – and it’s not who you expect

Chelsea are having a funny start to this season where nobody can quite make up their mind about whether things are heading in the right or the wrong direction.

Last week is a great example: a midweek bad result has everyone panicking, then a win at the weekend has us briefly up as high as third and we’re all happy again.

Summer signing Joao Pedro is in a similar boat. Nobody is quite sure if he’s going to be a great signing or a bad one. The good news is that he’s got the backing of a club legend already.

“He’s had a really good start to his Chelsea career and I think a lot of strikers come in and don’t get off to the start that he’s got off too so I’m delighted for him,” John Terry said on Jon Obi Mikel’s podcast this week.

“Also, I see him train and the boys tell me he’s unbelievable in training as well. So I like the way he trains, his whole demeanour, and he’s scoring goals, which I love.”

That’s great backing from a man who has played with the very best at Chelsea, including striker legends like Didier Drogba. JP has a long way to go to reach those levels, but let’s not forget Drogba started slowly too.

Down in the past…

Chelsea once had two of the greatest G/A merchants and bone fide Premier League legends on their books. Mo Salah and Kevin de Bruyne went on to make their names elsewhere – but on the same podcast Terry defended the decision to let them go.

Meanwhile in the present day, Chelsea have reached the quarter mile mark of the current season, and we can now compare their efforts to the equivalent fixtures last season. It’s broadly good, considering context.
