Chelsea’s teenage midfielder Vera Jones has signed her first professional contract with the club.

The Blues announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

The 17-year-old is a member of Chelsea’s Professional Game Academy squad after joining the club off the back of a spell with Barry Town Boys Academy. Jones is yet to break into the Chelsea first team but she is seen as one for the future at Kingsmeadow.

On the international stage, Jones has represented England at Under-17 level and she will be hoping to continue to negotiate her way through the age groups in the coming years.

After signing her first professional contract with Chelsea, Jones said “It’s a very proud moment for me and my family.

“To sign my first professional contract at such a special and big club makes it special to me. All the hard work put in has felt worth it. It’s just amazing to get it done.”

The next step in Jones’ career at Chelsea could see the player go out on loan to gain some experience of competitive first team football. No less than nine young players have been loaned out by The Blues this season to further their development.
