The storm around Enzo Maresca’s comments in his press conference continues, with Jamie Carragher’s comments on Monday Night Football this week bringing plenty of extra interest.

Jamie Carragher speaks about Enzo Maresca.
At this stage we’ve all figured out that Maresca was talking about those above him at the club – the sporting directors and maybe the owners – rather than the media or the fans. But Carragher went even further and pointed to some example of what he thought was frustrating the Chelsea boss.
“What you get is the coach comes initially and agrees to the terms and conditions, but then he feels like he’s done a really good job, and he’s done a great job getting Champions League football last season, winning a European competition and winning the Club World Cup.
“Slowly, the manager feels like he should get more power. He’ll be really disappointed that Chelsea didn’t go and get a centre-back in the summer when Levi Colwill got a big injury.
“So in the last few weeks the results have just turned on Maresca a little bit. He’s calling something out and wants something in the public, which I do not agree with.”
While it seems like a lack of support in the immediate aftermath of Chelsea’s bad run was the spark, we agree that the frustrations had likely risen through the summer, especially with the Colwill situation. Maresca basically said he wanted a replacement and didn’t get one.
Carragher had already spoken about Maresca’s comments earlier in the programme, making it clear that it was obvious who he was talking about when he said he felt a lack of support.
Chelsea are doing a festive series of features on their websites where they ask players for their best Christmas memories, and while Benoit Badiashile isn’t much of a raconteur, he did have some sweet things to say.
