Chelsea’s worst under-performing xG players have been named and they are also now down with Southampton as the worst team in front of goal.
The news comes after Chelsea were defeated by Arsenal in the Premier League yesterday, losing to a first half headed goal by Mikel Merino.
The game was obviously not without its drama and Chelsea fans saw what they expect to see every time Robert Sanchez starts, and that is him making a silly mistake and giving away a goal. This time he got lucky, but Maresca continued to back his goalkeeper at the full time whistle once again.
Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was seen mocking Maresca on the side lines in an interaction that has annoyed Blues fans even more.
All in all it wasn’t a good performance from Chelsea and it lacked intensity, desire, energy, and any kind of real belief that they could get something from the game.
Chelsea failed to score against Arsenal in this game of course, and their lack of goals scored has come under the microscope once again.
As reported by Sky Sports, Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are the worst two culprits for under-performing xG at Chelsea.
The chart below is in the Premier League, 2024/25 and factors forwards and attacking midfielders:
And as well as this, Chelsea are down there with Southampton as being the worst finishers in front of goal this season,
Only Southampton’s forwards having under-performed more than Chelsea in front of goal, as you can see below…
It’s remarkable to see this really and shows that whilst they are making chances, Chelsea have been terrible in front of goal this season.
