The England squad for the March international break has been announced, and there’s just one Chelsea player in there. Even with Thomas Tuchel having increased the group size for this trip to 35, only Cole Palmer makes the list. And even he’s pretty lucky, given his recent form.

Of course Levi Colwill, Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah would both be in there were it not for their injuries. But even so, given the success of our academy, we’d like to see more than three players in a group of 35.

It’s clear the talent we’ve let slip just by looking at the former Blues in there – Marc Guehi, Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento, Fikayo Tomori are all included from the defenders alone.

Then there’s Declan Rice (technically) and Dominic Solanke further forward.

The good news is that the academy never stops churning out top talents, and there’s always another wave coming through. Let’s try and do better with holding on to this emerging generation.

In other news…

Enzo Fernandez has made his first move towards the exit from Chelsea, and it feels like a big moment in this team’s progress.

“Soft” players in the Chelsea squad are letting them down in big games claims one of the top Blues podcasts out there.
