The goal that opened the scoring in Sunday’s Glasgow derby can certainly be classified in the ‘worldly’ bracket, and despite it coming from a player in a blue shirt you can only put your hands up and admit it was a terrific goal. You would have to be wearing the thickest pair of green tinted specs to deny its quality.

The SMSM have naturally been purring over Youssef Chermiti’s effort, with some of them suggesting that it’s the best ever effort in the history of the fixture across the Old Firm era and now into the days of the Glasgow Derby since that rivalry began in February 2015 in a League Cup semi-final at Hampden.

Chermiti Goal could be considered as a contender for the best in the history of the Glasgow Derby, but even the likes of Moussa Dembele, Tom Rogic, would be challenging for that accolade.

If we’re talking the best effort ever seen in a game against the two entities to have played out of Ibrox, then for me and most other Celtic supporters I’d imagine that would be the iconic and sensational goal scored by the King of Kings himself, Mr Henrik Larsson back in August 2000. Yet there will also have been stunning goals scored by both sides over previous generations so making such lavish claims is usually more emotional than factual.

That goal in the 6-2 humbling of an Ibrox side packed with quality, was one of the best goals I’ve ever seen, not just in our game, but the world footballing fraternity as a whole.

More importantly it was a game in which we won, and one that proved significant in our fortunes that campaign and indeed was a major catalyst for the balance of power shifting to the green half of Glasgow under Martin O’Neill.

Henrik’s piece of brilliance will remain unsurpassed. The elegance, the skill and the composure he showed to beat an international and Champions league winner in Stefan Klos will remain the best ever goal scored by Celtic against any entity of the club playing out of Ibrox for a long while yet.

Then there was Nakamura’s swerving shot from distance against theRangers which is also worth a mention. You could add a dozen more too.

Any comparisons by the SMSM fraternity to Henrik’s classic goal is nothing more than blatant pandering to the Ibrox hordes.
