Chicago Fire head coach Frank Klopas has provided his response to the surprise speculation linking his side with a move for Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski.
The subject of hitman Lewandowski’s future has of course long represented a headline talking point in Catalunya’s capital.
This comes amid what has proven a largely underwhelming campaign all told on the part of the Polish international.
Singled out for regular criticism on the part of the Barcelona faithful for not only his goalscoring efforts, but all-round contribution to Xavi’s side, it has in turn come as little surprise to see ‘Lewa’ tipped for an exit.
A whole host of clubs from both the Saudi Pro League and MLS are understood to be keeping a close eye on the situation, with a view to an imminent offer for his signature.
One such outfit tipped to formalise an approach over the coming week, meanwhile, come in the form of the aforementioned Chicago Fire.
Speaking to the media in the early hours of Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of as much was put to Fire head coach Frank Klopas.
The former USA international, however, was quick to pour cold water on the speculation, adamant that Lewandowski will not be making his way stateside any time soon.
“It’s not feasible,” Klopas explained, as cited by Pro Soccer Wire. “Every team in [MLS] would want Lewandowski to come. But unfortunately, he has two years left in his contract.”
“Barcelona paid over $50 million to get him, so I don’t think it’s a player that’s going to be coming into MLS, especially right now.”
