Chicago Fire head coach and Director of Football Gregg Berhalter has heaped praise on new acquisition Mbekezeli Mbokazi and highlighted the significance of Puso Dithejane's signing.

The 20-year-old defender signed for the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit last month, following a meticulous rise at Orlando Pirates, where he made his debut in March 2025.

Speaking to the media on Mbokazi's signing, Berhalter waxed lyrical about the player, noting his capability to handle big-name players, as he impressed at the Africa Cup of Nations.

“He's a player that has high potential and he's already shown that he can deal with some top players and play at the highest stage and now for us it's about to get him prepared, used to the league, adapted to the league, and then get him prepared for the World Cup,” he said.

The former USA national team coach went on to dissect the reason behind the club's addition of another South African in Dithejane, who was lured from TS Galaxy this week.

“Well, I think there's two things - the first thing is that we want to bring talented players who can help the squad into the club. The second thing is, we think it's beneficial for them to have each other and to work in pairs,” Berhalter added.

"It's going to be a huge transition for both of the players and it's comforting to know that they'll have someone from their home country to help them adapt.

Notably, both players have occupied an U-22 initiative slot on long-term deals, and it remains to be seen how they will fare in America.
