Where Chido Obi will spend the rest of this season remains uncertain.

The young Manchester United striker seems ready for first-team football, but it is unlikely the Red Devils will be the ones offering it to him this season.

Months after signing from Arsenal, Obi found himself featuring for the United senior side eight times; seven in the Premier League and once in the FA Cup.

A spate of attacking injuries in the second half of the 2024-25 season left former United head coach Ruben Amorim having to call on him.

Come summer 2025, however, it was decided that Obi had been exposed to first-team football too early, and that he needed further polishing, something best left to the academy coaches. So, for the 2025-26 season, he was sent back down to Man United’s junior teams.

Obi ready for the next step

In 38 games last season, he scored 20 goals, an impressive return that has sparked suggestions it is time he was given a taste of first-team football.

He has not yet been promoted to the first team, but there has been talk of a loan exit.

There was previously talk of him joining Bundesliga club FC Köln on a season-long loan, though nothing came of it.

Now, the Eredivisie, not the Bundesliga, is where Obi could spend the rest of the 2026-27 season.

Feyenoord want Obi

As per Dutch outlet De Telegraaf:

“[Obi] is not yet eligible for Manchester United’s first team and may be loaned out to a club where he will have a better chance of playing time.

“Obi has a price tag of €5 million on the transfer market, but Feyenoord is currently only interested in a loan deal. It is not known whether a purchase option can be negotiated.”

Perfect move

A move to Feyenoord, were it to go through, would be an interesting one for the young striker.

The Dutch league is renowned for its world-class youth development and exciting attacking style of play, both of which could bring out the best in the young United striker.

That said, with Feyenoord having qualified for the Champions League, Obi, should he sign with them, could find himself making his Champions League debut this season, which would certainly be exciting.
