Manchester United academy wonderkid Chido Obi was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his impressive displays for Denmark’s U20 national team at the Maurice Revello tournament.
The 17-year-old uploaded a picture of himself holding the award, showcasing what a talent the Red Devils have on their hands.
The wonderkid made four appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist as his team finished third.
He started in fine fashion against Mexico as he grabbed an assist, before scoring against Congo in a 2-0 win with a rasping right-footed drive.
His final goal came against the Japan U20 team, with his pressing forcing an error from the goalkeeper as he tapped into an empty net.
He played the first half of his team’s semifinal game against Saudi Arabia which Denmark U20 ended up losing 4-3. The coach did not call on him for the third-place game.
But still his displays were enough for him to win the award. What was most impressive was the fact that he played in the renowned youth tournament against opponents older than him.
Chido Obi has carried on his impressive form from the post-season Asia tour, where he rescued his club against Hong Kong with a second-half brace.
Last season was his breakthrough season for the 20-time English league champions as he ended up making a total of eight senior appearances.
And while a senior goal eluded him, he earned praise from several legends with his clever play inside the box, and his predatory instincts.
It is well known that the Old Trafford side are on the hunt for a ruthless finisher ahead of next season, plunging the ex-Arsenal youth star’s future in doubt.
But with Rasmus Hojlund likely to leave, Chido should stick around in the first team and learn from a better professional, which will in turn improve him even further. He is already proving to Ruben Amorim that he is ready to step up.
