Botswana FNB Premiership outfit Mochudi Centre Chiefs have completed the signing Argentinian midfielder Nahuel Nicolas Melgarejo.

The 21-year-old playmaker joined from UAE Pro League side Al Bataeh FC during the transfer deadline day on Monday, 22 September.

Melgarejo put pen to paper on a one-year deal with an option to extend his stay with Chiefs by a further 12 months.

He rose through the ranks of Club Atletico Temperley in his homeland, before sealing a move to the Gulf region in the 2023/24 campaign.

In UAE, Chiefs’ marquee signing made a total of 17 appearances for Bataeh’s under-21 and under-23 sides, scoring three goals in the process.

Meanwhile, the Botswana Premiership title aspirants have also roped in Gilbert Baruti from Jwaneng Galaxy as one of the newly signed 18 players.

Chiefs have set their sights on winning the championship for the first time since 2015, and they are currently in third place, trailing log leaders Township Rollers with two points.

Interestingly, Stanton Fredericks Sports Group, a consortium led by the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder recently took over the Botswana club on a 15-year management contract.
