Giorgio Chiellini stands up for sacked Juventus coach Max Allegri, insisting ‘Pep Guardiola could not have done more’ with that squad, but he is looking forward to Thiago Motta in Turin and Antonio Conte at Napoli.

The Bianconeri legend spoke to Sky Sport Italia today and was naturally asked about his former club, who sensationally fired Allegri just days after winning the Coppa Italia Final against Atalanta.

It was confirmed today that the club sacked him for ‘just cause’ due to his behaviour in that match and are therefore opening up a legal battle.

“Juve did the best they could this year. Not even Pep Guardiola could have done more,” insisted Chiellini.

Chiellini analyses Juventus and Napoli

Although not yet official, Juventus are expected to appoint Thiago Motta, who took Bologna to an unexpected Champions League qualification.

“Even as a player, he was already coaching from the middle of the pitch. You could always tell he was going to become a coach in future.

“What he did this season was extraordinary. I hope he will settle well with the Bianconeri, he has everything required to do well and I am confident.”

Meanwhile, former Juventus boss Conte is heading towards Napoli, with reports he has agreed a contract with President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“I think he will do well,” concluded Chiellini.

“Conte has to change a few things, but this is an intriguing and explosive combination for all of Naples.”
