Chivas Are Always Ready to Fight for the Title.-Rubén González

Guadalajara continues its preparations for Jornada 10 of the Apertura 2026, when it will host Gallos Blancos de Querétaro at Estadio AKRON. With the goal of maintaining its strong run in the tournament, the Rebaño is working at Verde Valle with its sights set on earning three more points in front of its home fans.

Ahead of this matchup, Rubén González spoke to the media during a press conference and addressed several topics surrounding the current sporting moment of the rojiblanco team, from the competition within the squad and the support for the players who have been called up to the Selección Mexicana, to the mentality with which Chivas approaches every match and its goal of remaining a title contender.

On the match against Querétaro:

We always take it one match at a time. This is Querétaro and we’re going to go out there with the determination to get three points. The face we’ve always shown has been the one from the first half (against América in El Clásico de México), but we also have to know how to withstand difficult moments, maintain a strong mentality and look for results.

On Chivas’ objective in the AP26:

At Chivas, we’re always ready to fight for the title, and in order to remain contenders, we have to take it one match at a time. If we continue showing, match by match, the way we play, we’ll be in first place. But there will also be results where you draw and still manage to make it into the Liguilla. We know that once you get there, it’s a different tournament, but it’s always better to have home-field advantage.

On the competition within the squad:

At the end of the day, we’re here at Chivas and there’s good competition within the squad. We know that anyone can play. Our job is not to lower our intensity and to wait for the moment when you get the chance to come on, whether it’s for five or 10 minutes, whatever it may be. Or, from the bench, to support the teammates who are starting.

On the players called up to the Selección Mexicana with Rafael Márquez as Head Coach:

We’re happy that the selected players are with the Selección Mexicana, but we also have the moral responsibility to be able to play and show what we’re made of. I think that’s what has helped us as a team: whoever is on the field can do an even better job than the other.”

On promotion and relegation in Mexican soccer:

Chivas is in favor of promotion and relegation. I had the opportunity to play for Coras and Zacatepec, and in the end, competition itself creates the possibility of building a better squad. More than anything, it’s about the hunger it gives you to always keep growing in soccer. I think I’ll always support whatever helps our soccer. At the moment, I don’t think there has been any contact (with teams from Liga de Expansión), but at the end of the day, we’re open to dialogue.

On the result in El Clásico de México:

At the end of the day, there will always be good or bad comments. When it comes to that, we have to stay together as a team. Here, we talk about how we’re doing and understand where we stand so we can take it one match at a time. We can’t make the same mistakes again, and we have to keep polishing the details so we can continue improving match by match.

On Kevin Castañeda and Jordan Carrillo:

I think they both know which club they’ve joined, and they know that if they’re playing, they have to give everything. And if they have to wait, they have to be patient. Everything is for the good of the team, and all of us are supporting them with whatever they need.
