Chivas boss Luis Fernando Tena finds football without fans 'ugly' | OneFootball

Luis Fernando Tena described playing behind closed doors as “ugly” after his Chivas side drew 1-1 at home to Monterrey on Saturday.

Chivas took the lead in the 20th minute at the empty Estadio Akron as fans were kept away from the game after a decision by Liga MX to do so.

Captain Jesús Molina rose to meet a corner only for his powerful header to be pushed onto the post by Rayados goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero.

Molina was quickest to react and was able to sidefoot the rebound home from close range.

Los Rojiblancos held the lead until 20 minutes from time when Monterrey’s Jesús Gallardo burst into the Chivas area before unleashing a ferocious drive to the roof of the net.

Tena felt a draw was a fair reflection on how the game went, but was unimpressed by the experience of playing with supporters present.

“It is very ugly to play without people, but the health situation in the country so warrants it,” Tena said afterwards.

“I think we needed the encouragement of our fans, but we must admit that Monterrey is a very strong team and that the draw was fair.”

The point lifted Chivas up to fourth in the Clausura table.
