Chivas Femenil played a hard-fought match in the start of the Apertura 2025 Quarterfinals, drawing 2-2 against Toluca on Thursday night at the Estadio AKRON. Antonio Contreras' team was superior to its rival, but a lapse in defense cost it the advantage.
The most evenly matched tie in this first round of the playoffs lived up to expectations, as both the Rojiblancas and the Escarlatas played a back-and-forth game in all areas of the field. Guadalajara came out determined to impose their will at home, and this was reflected at key moments in the match by Alicia Cervantes, who continued to add to her legacy as the Rebaño's top scorer with a brace. Unfortunately for the Guadalajara side, two goals from Faustine Robert in the second half leveled the score after the final whistle.
Chivas Femenil will be forced to beat Toluca next Sunday at the Estadio Nemesio Diez to advance to the semifinals, as the tiebreaker favors the Diablas due to their position in the table.
The goals
- In the 14th minute, 'Licha' Cervantes broke away on the back of a perfect pass from Yamile Franco and beat Martínez one-on-one with a low right-footed shot across goal.- In the 52nd minute, the Escarlatas equalized with a long-range shot from Faustine Robert.- A brace from 'Depredadora'! In the 65th minute, Cervantes fooled the goalkeeper from the penalty spot to restore Rojiblanca's lead.-In the 87th minute, Robert tied the game again with a volley inside the box.
The dangerous ones
- In the 11th minute, Casandra Montero took the ball in the middle of the field after high pressure and unleashed a right-footed shot that went over the crossbar.- In the 26th minute, a rebound in the half-moon fell to 'Licha', who without hesitation shot at the defense, but the referee signaled a goal kick.- In the 62nd minute, Denise Castro played a pass behind the defense, received the ball, and tried to beat the goalkeeper, but missed by a narrow margin.- In the 74th minute, 'Viri' scored the third goal for Guadalajara, but it was ruled offside.- In the 75th minute, 'Caro' tried her luck from outside the box after a great feint in the half-moon, aiming for the far post, but Martínez's save prevented the goal.- In the 79th minute, Denise Castro rose inside the area to connect with Salazar's cross from the right, but she was unable to get a good shot off.
