Arsenal have announced the permanent signing of England international Chloe Kelly, who returns to the Gunners after a successful loan spell last season.
Upon joining Arsenal in January, Kelly stated that she would not be returning to Manchester City and now that her contract with City has expired, the forward has secured her return to the Champions League winners.
The 27-year-old came through the youth ranks at Arsenal and made 13 first-team appearances before eventually joining Everton and then City.
Deemed surplus to requirements, Kelly made the loan switch to Arsenal and played a key role in their Champions League triumph – which saw the Gunners defeat Barcelona 1-0 in the final in Lisbon.
At international level, Kelly has made 53 appearances and scored eight goals for England, including the winner in the UEFA Women’s European Championship Final in 2022.
Kelly was also an integral part of the Lionesses’ squad which reached the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.
The England international says she is looking forward to working alongside Renee Slegers once again as she eyes more glory with her boyhood club.
“Putting pen to paper on a permanent contract at Arsenal is a standout moment for me”, she said.
“Learning from an incredible manager and continuing to build relationships with an excellent team is a journey I’m looking forward to continuing.
“I’m excited for more silverware at this special club and to bring more trophies back to North London to celebrate with our supporters.
“I’ve always said that Arsenal supporters are the best and to have them on my side, singing my name, means so much to me.”
Head coach Slegers added: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to make Chloe a permanent signing for us. She had a great impact for us and played an important role in what we achieved here last season, and I know she shares our ambition to compete for more.”
Kelly will continue to wear the number 18 jersey at Arsenal and will link up with her team mates following the Euros, which begin tonight in Switzerland.
