Birmingham City have discussed the possibility of replacing Chris Davies after just six games into the new season

Birmingham City are weighing up Scott Parker and Sean Dyche as potential replacements to the under pressure Chris Davies.

According to Teamtalk, the Blues are already lining up two names in the event that they change head coach in these early weeks of the campaign.

Davies was appointed in the summer of 2024 following the club’s relegation from the Championship, and he led the team to the League One title at the first attempt.

The Midlands outfit earned a record 111 points on their way to automatic promotion, and then finished 10th in their first year back in the second tier.

However, Birmingham’s owners Knighthead Capital have ambitions to bring the team back to the Premier League for the first time since 2011.

And Davies’ side have earned just seven points from their opening six fixtures this season, leaving him under pressure ahead of the upcoming international break.

It’s believed that Birmingham’s next two games could be crucial to determining Davies’ future, with the September international break getting underway immediately afterwards.

The three week break offers clubs the opportunity to make a change in the dugout without disrupting the team too much mid-season.

And it’s understood that intermediaries have already made contact with the Midlands outfit to push two potential coaches as a possible replacement.

Both Parker and Dyche have been discussed by the Birmingham hierarchy, but no firm decision has yet been made on the future of the current head coach just yet.

Birmingham have only lost won of their opening six games, but four draws and one victory has left the team 15th in the table.

Davies’ side face the out-of-form Derby County this weekend before a clash against Middlesbrough in their final game before the international break.

Supporters are split on the future of Davies, with some suggesting that the recruitment team are more at fault for their underwhelming start to the season.

While there are fans who expected the coach to be sacked after the humiliating 6-1 defeat to Brentford in the EFL Cup, focus has turned more to the lack of quality added to the squad in the summer.

The criticism of Birmingham’s recent recruitment has taken some of the pressure off the 41-year-old.

While there have been bumps along the way, the club have still come a long way under his management, and it would be rash to dismiss him at this stage of the campaign.

Parker and Dyche are also two very different styles of manager, so Birmingham need to figure out what they actually want from a head coach before pulling the trigger on a change in the dugout.

Of course, the pair both have experience of Championship success and working in the Premier League, but Davies has still earned the chance to keep going at St. Andrew’s.
