In a significant development for Rangers supporters, journalist Chris Jack has effectively ruled out Steven Gerrard’s return as the club’s next manager. Despite ongoing speculation and Gerrard’s previous success at Ibrox, Jack’s insights suggest the club is seeking a fresh direction.

Jack, writing for the Rangers Review, indicated that the upcoming managerial appointment will involve someone without prior ties to the club. He stated, “It is understood that the appointment will be a manager with no previous involvement with Rangers. The new era will be a new beginning” . This move aligns with the club’s intent to usher in a new chapter under the prospective ownership of 49ers Enterprises.

While Gerrard’s name has been prominent in discussions, Jack emphasized that the club’s focus is on bringing in a figurehead who can represent Rangers in a new light. He remarked, “They’re looking for someone who represents the club in the right way”  . This perspective underscores the club’s ambition to move beyond past affiliations and embrace a novel approach to leadership.

Gerrard’s managerial record post-Rangers has been mixed, with stints at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq yielding less than stellar results. His win rates at these clubs stood at 32.5% and 39%, respectively, compared to a 64.8% win rate during his time at Rangers  . These statistics may have influenced the club’s decision to explore other options.

As Rangers look ahead, the emphasis appears to be on innovation and a break from tradition. The club’s leadership is seemingly committed to identifying a manager who can bring fresh ideas and strategies to the team, steering Rangers into a new era of success.
