Chris Sutton has gone for a draw and leans towards Leeds United, while Alan Shearer backs Newcastle United before Monday night at Elland Road.
The fixture closes the weekend, with each on five points and Matthias Jaissle’s side ahead on goal difference. Leeds are seeking a response to Wednesday’s 6-3 Carabao Cup loss at Chelsea, and last season’s comparable Elland Road meeting finished 0-0.
In his BBC Sport predictions column, Sutton called Newcastle the division’s counter-attacking pace-setters and praised Daniel Farke’s versatility and added steel. He questioned whether the hosts carry the same attacking threat, but still edged them as likelier winners at home and predicted 1-1.
Farke has nearly a full squad, with Joe Rodon out and Ilia Gruev yet to make a matchday squad. Newcastle right-back Amar Dedic is a doubt, with Joelinton and Dan Burn sidelined.
“It's always a ferocious atmosphere at Elland Road. It's only down the road really, an hour and a half down the road from Newcastle, so there'll be thousands of fans travelling down there.” He told Betfair.
“I'm going to go for a Newcastle away win. They’re unbeaten this season, two wins in the cup, and three in the league. I am going to go for an away win, and I hope the boys can keep this good run going.”
