Chris Sutton has welcomed the decision to allow the Green Brigade back into Celtic Park following their outrageous five month suspension…

The club confirmed on Tuesday that the supporters’ group would be reinstated, bringing an end to a ban that had been in place since November and was initially imposed without a clear return date.

Their comeback has been met with a positive response among the fanbase, with many anticipating a lift in atmosphere as the group resumes its presence in the Safe Standing area of the North Curve.

Former Hoops striker Sutton believes their return could play a key role as Celtic head into the closing stages of the season.

Writing on X, Sutton said: “The Green Brigade are back to cheer Celtic on to the title.”

The GB will now occupy the North Curve for four of Celtic’s final four Premiership fixtures at Celtic Park, restoring a key element of the club’s matchday backing that has been missing this season.

That development could prove significant in the title race, particularly as rivals Hearts have only three home matches left, while the Ibrox club are down to just two amid all their moaning.

Both challengers are still due to visit Celtic Park before the campaign concludes, with Hearts scheduled to visit on the final day in a clash that could carry major title implications.

Although the decision to restore the GB arrives later than some had hoped, it provides a timely lift for Martin O’Neill’s side as they push not only the league title but the Scottish Cup as well.

Celtic take on St Mirren this Saturday in their final match before the Premiership split, before facing the Buddies again at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup final.

Victory in that showpiece semi next Sunday is far from certain, particularly in light of the Hoops’ experience in the Premier Sports League Cup final earlier this season. Should O’Neill’s men come through that test, they would meet either Falkirk or Neil Lennon’s Dunfermline in May’s final.
