Chris Wilder is set to be sacked by Sheffield United according to reports after the club failed to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Journalists Rob Dorsett and Tim Thornton of Sky Sports News are reporting that United have made the decision to part with their manager after an internal review of the season.

The Blades finished third in the Championship with 90 points, 10 points behind both automatically promoted sides Burnley and title winners Leeds United.

Wilder's side also 14 clear of fourth-placed Sunderland but eventually lost 2-1 in the Championship final at Wembley due to Tom Watson's stoppage-time winner.

The 57-year-old manager finished last season with a record of 31 wins, eight draws, and 13 defeats in all competitions.

The club's owners are now looking to bring in a new manager to kick start their regime with Wilder to be dismissed for a second time.
