Premier League winner Christian Fuchs has been appointed as Newport County's new manager.

The Exiles have had a tough start to the 2025/26 season and see themselves bottom of League Two with 16 games played in the fourth tier.

Fuchs has been brought in by the club to replace David Hughes who was let go after last weekend's 1-0 defeat away to Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.

It is a first managerial role for the former Leicester City man who has been an assistant at MLS side Charlotte FC.

"We see Christian as the sort of man to lead our club forward. I believe he matches our ambition and goals for Newport County FC," said the club's chairman, Huw Jenkins.

"I do feel we can now look forward with a great deal of optimism. We’ll look to improve our current situation in League Two and take things from there.

"Christian is ambitious and wants, one day, to manage in the Premier League, we believe he shares our strong belief in what Newport County can eventually become."

The Austrian will be with his squad ahead of Saturday's game away to Oldham Athletic.
