Hoffenheim extended their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to six games following an emphatic 3-0 win against Augsburg. With five wins and a draw, Christian Ilzer’s side are well in the hunt for European football.

First-half goals from Bazoumana Touré and Wouter Burger fired the Sinsheim club into a 2-0 lead after 26 minutes before Augsburg’s Cédric Zesiger put the ball in his own net in added time at the end of the opening 45.

With one of the youngest squads in the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim are playing with a renewed intensity under Ilzer, showcasing their free-flowing attacking football.

Speaking after their 3-0 triumph over Augsburg, Ilzer commended his team’s first-half performance: “We wanted to thrill the fans. The first-half was close to what we had envisioned. This wasn’t just down to the eleven players in the starting lineup, but to the entire squad who lay the foundation for this in training.”

With several turnovers in the second-half, TSG were forced to do more defending, something in which Ilzer was also happy with.

“We conceded very little,” added TSG’s head coach. “For long stretches, we played well. We are very satisfied.”

Next week, Hoffenheim face Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park.
