Real Madrid’s January window shows little sign of movement. Xabi Alonso asked for a striker and a midfielder, requests Florentino Pérez turned down. The Basque coach has since departed and Álvaro Arbeloa is in as caretaker.

Christian Kofane is central to that conversation, with SkySport reporting his transfer could be settled at around €50m.

The Cameroon striker lit up LaLiga Hypermotion last season after joining Albacete, scoring eight in the second half of the campaign. At 18, he had a €5m release clause and several LaLiga clubs showed interest, including Real Madrid, who planned a B team registration with first team exposure. No decision arrived and Bayer Leverkusen paid above the clause to sign him, a Champions League project.

Now 19, the Cameroon international has four goals this season for the Bundesliga side. Barcelona are also tracking him as a potential Lewandowski successor.

Even so, the Bernabéu side are said to hold the early advantage, albeit one year later than planned.
