1. FC Union Berlin said in a statement that captain Christopher Trimmel has signed a new contract, keeping the 38-year-old at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei for another season.

Trimmel put pen to paper during the club’s 60th anniversary celebrations, signing in front of around 4,000 supporters.

The right-back has been with Union since 2014, a constant through the rise from the second tier to European competition. Despite increased competition in recent seasons, he has remained a key figure, featuring in 16 of the first 18 Bundesliga matches this season.

At the anniversary event, fans also named him in the club’s legends XI, underlining his standing on and off the pitch. The decision reflects his experience, leadership and deep connection to the club.

Trimmel said Union is more than a club to him, calling it his home, and he looks forward to contributing as a player and leader next season. The extension means he will enter his 12th season with Union Berlin in 2026/27.
