Prolific winger seen as direct replacement for Leandro Trossard

Standard Sport understands a deal worth around £33.8million is close to being finalised for the 24-year-old as Arsenal move to replace Leandro Trossard, who joined Besiktas for £15.3m earlier this week.

Tzolis, who is said to be keen on a move to the Emirates, enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, scoring 22 goals and providing 29 assists in all competitions for Club Brugge as they won the Belgian Pro League for the 20th time.

The Greek international also played the full 90 as Arsenal beat Club Brugge 3-0 in the league phase of the Champions League.

Tzolis, who spent three seasons at Norwich City, becomes Arsenal’s second signing of the summer after the arrival of backup goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer following his departure from Leeds.

The Gunners also confirmed the permanent signing of defender Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, after the Ecuador international spent last season on loan at the Premier League champions.

Arsenal have been looking to strengthen their options out wide, with Trossard departing for Besiktas and Gabriel Martinelli also linked with a move away.

They still retain an interest in Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers, and it is not believed that any deal for Tzolis will impact Arsenal’s pursuit of the England international.

Arsenal are also potentially in the market for another centre-back, depending on how long William Saliba is expected to be out after suffering a back injury during France’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Spain.

Saliba is reported to be considering surgery on the issue, which he admitted he was battling with last season.
