CIES tips Sp. Braga over FC Porto in title race

The latest study from the Football Observatory (CIES) points to Sporting as the favorite to win the 2025/26 Liga Betclic. According to the organization, the Lions have a 39.3% probability of becoming national champions once again, just as in the last two seasons, with Benfica in second place, with a 24.5% chance. Next is Sp. Braga, with 21.1%, and FC Porto has a 10% probability of becoming champion.

The study was conducted for 29 leagues and, according to CIES, is based on a model that “combines sporting variables (data on impact of passes in the opponent’s half), economic variables (transfer fees invested to recruit players), and demographic variables (players’ minutes in the last year and the sporting level of their matches).”
