Bristol City beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 at The Valley on Friday to climb from 16th to 13th in the Championship.

Early on, Emil Riis struck the post. In the 11th minute, Scott Twine finished from the centre of the box after Max Bird's pass.

Lyndon Dykes levelled for Charlton (30.), turning in Charlie Kelman's cut-back.

After the restart, Noah Eile forced in from close range (55.) following a City set piece to restore the advantage.

Will Mannion made six saves, denying Twine and Sam Morsy among others, but could do little about Eile's close-range finish. Radek Vítek kept City in front late on, saving from Joe Rankin-Costello and Matt Godden.

Play paused before the interval for treatment to Ross McCrorie, who was then replaced at half time.

City registered 17 attempts, eight on target. Charlton had 13 attempts and four on target, with 47.2% possession.

Charlton Athletic remain 18th on 48 points. City host Sheffield United next, while Charlton visit Watford.
