City strike early to climb to sixth at The Hawthorns

Bristol City beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at The Hawthorns, rising from ninth to sixth in the Championship.
Anis Mehmeti arrowed a low shot in from outside the box in the fourth minute. Ross McCrorie then finished from the centre of the area after Scott Twine's pass (22.).
Max O'Leary made three saves as City absorbed pressure. West Bromwich Albion controlled 64.5% possession and tallied 16 attempts as they pushed back.
After Samuel Iling-Junior's introduction, West Bromwich Albion targeted the right flank, with Aune Heggebo heading off target from close range (68.). Ousmane Diakite halved the deficit with a close range header from Michael Johnston's cross following a corner (85.).
Karlan Ahearne-Grant struck the bar in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time as City survived a late siege.
West Bromwich Albion forced nine corners. City made 41 clearances.
West Bromwich Albion host Queens Park Rangers next. City visit Millwall.
