City will play one of Bodo/Glimt or Real Madrid in the Round of 16 of the 2025/26 Champions League.
We’ll discover our opponents, and a potential route to the final, in Friday’s 11:00 (UK) draw from UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon.
We played both sides in the league phase of this year’s competition, winning 2-1 at Real Madrid in December before a 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt in the Arctic Circle in January.
Our two prospective opponents could hardly be any further apart in terms of experience on the European stage.
Bodo/Glimt are enjoying their maiden Champions League campaign and are the first Norwegian club to reach the last-16 of this competition since Rosenborg’s run to the quarter-final in 1996/97.
After beating us at their Aspmyra Stadium, they won at Atletico Madrid to qualify for the play-off round. At that stage, they won both legs against Serie A leaders Inter.
Real Madrid have won the competition more than anyone else, claiming the most recent of their 15 trophies in 2023/24.
They reached this stage this season by beating Benfica in the play-off round after a ninth placed finish in the League Phase.
Including our win at the Bernabeu earlier this term, we have already faced the Spanish giants in each of the last five seasons and in six of the last seven.
The Round of 16 will be played across two legs on the 10/11 and 17/18 March 2026, with City set to play at home in the second leg by virtue of finishing in the top eight of the league phase.
We’ll bring news of who we’ll face on mancity.com and our official app as soon as the draw is made on Friday.
