Pep Guardiola says he has no doubt that City’s spirit and togetherness mean we will find a way to cope despite the number of injuries and key absences that are currently affecting the squad.
The boss also gave an insight into prospective plans for the January transfer market, saying though the Club may seek to do some business this month it would be nowhere near the scale of last January’s window activity.
City are back in Premier League action on Wednesday evening when we play host to Brighton and Hove Albion.
It’s the third fixture of an intensive month that will see us play nine games in total across all competitions.
Speaking at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, the boss confirmed that central defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias are both facing spells on the sidelines through injury with John Stones also unavailable.
With Omar Marmoush and Rayan Ait-Nouri also absent due to their participation at the 2026 AFCON, and the likes of Oscar Bobb and Mateo Kovacic sidelined too, it will limit Pep’s selection options for the visit of the Seagulls.
However, the boss is adamant City will come through this testing scenario all the stronger.
“We have six or seven [players] injured. If you have 35 players in the squad it cannot be sustainable financially,” the boss pointed out.
“Always you have to make financially our numbers, but I was really pleased with the squad we had in pre-season and the season and right now.
“It’s what it is. During the years this happens sometimes.
“Josko [Gvardiol] and Ruben [Dias] will come back soon and John [Stones] as well and the players from AFCON will be back.
“We will survive this moment and period and go for the next one. I am so confident and positive that we will do it.”
Twelve months ago, a host of injuries saw City embark on a busy January window that saw Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez all join the club.
This time round however the boss says that if we do any business in the transfer market it will be on a much smaller scale
“Maybe we get something, but it is completely different [to last season],” Guardiola pointed out.
“We are not going to buy four or five players like last season.”
