FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit shares their opinion on whether they'd be open to expanding Bramall Lane
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Sheffield United have endured a nightmare start to the 2025/26 season, in a turn of events that not even the most optimistic Sheffield Wednesday fans could have possibly foreseen.
It would be safe to suggest that not many could have possibly predicted the torrid run of form Sheffield United would undergo at the beginning of this campaign.
Having lost out in the play-off final to Sunderland last season, Chris Wilder was relieved of his duties as manager and was replaced by former Reading and Hull City boss Ruben Selles.
However, after six losses in six games, the Spaniard was also dismissed and was swiftly replaced by Wilder, who is in his third separate spell with his boyhood club.
The Blades sit at rock bottom of the Championship table, nine games in with one win and eight losses, below bitter city rivals Sheffield Wednesday, who underwent an even more turbulent summer than them.
They have scored just twice at home thus far and have yet to pick up a point at Bramall Lane, in what has been a dejecting experience for Blades fans to say the least, who would have held ambitions of the play-offs once more this season.
There is still time to turn their form around, with the Championship season not even a quarter of the way through, yet talks of moving to a new stadium or seeing Bramall Lane expanded have certainly not been top of the agenda for FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy.
Speaking to FLW concerning potential stadium plans, Jimmy said, "I think every club would like a stadium expansion. I'm not one for a new stadium, I'm a bit of a traditionalist like that, to be honest.
"I would love to stay at Bramall Lane and renovate there, if that's what we're going to do.
"But ultimately, first and foremost, we're not filling Bramall Lane currently, and that's because it's not right on the pitch, so the first focus is to get it right on the pitch.
"I think any stadium expansion discussion needs to take place if and when we get back to the Premier League.
"If we can become a sustainable side at Premier League level, then yes, it's certainly a conversation that if we're filling the stands every week, let's talk about a stadium expansion.
"But for now, all the focus should be on what's going on on the pitch, because it's not going right for Sheffield United, and we need to turn that around first."
Wilder has been in charge of four games since his return to the club, with three ending in narrow defeats and one in victory, that being away to Oxford United.
It certainly hasn't been the homecoming the 58-year-old would have been hoping for, and now heading into another international break, it provides Wilder with the chance to evaluate his squad and the club's situation.
The Blades, along with Norwich City, are the only clubs yet to pick up a point at home this season so far, and it will be something that Wilder will be conscious of heading into their next fixture at Bramall Lane against his former club, Watford.
The Sheffield native has built up enough credit among the club's supporters over the years, having been in charge of their rise from League One to a top-half Premier League finish, and will be given the time required to turn the ship around.
Talk of a new stadium or expansion to their current ground will almost certainly be the last thing on supporters' minds right now, with the form on the pitch being the imperative issue the club must fix.
If Sheffield United steadies their home form and finds their way climbing back up to the Premier League with a booming fanbase, then talks of an expansion may crop up, but for now, that is almost certainly the least of their issues.
