Ipswich Town winger Jack Clarke is making a compelling case for more starts this season, having now scored five times off the bench for Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys.
The former Sunderland wide man has seven goals in all during the current campaign, with the majority coming as a substitute. His latest impact arrived in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road, where Clarke surged into the area and poked past Owls goalkeeper Pierce Charles to put the result beyond doubt.
While the 25-year-old will be keen to avoid the ‘super sub’ label, his goalscoring from the bench has become a formidable weapon for an Ipswich side now sitting third in the Championship.
Clarke currently stands alone when it comes to substitute impact this season, with no other player across the 92 matching his five goals off the bench.
The closest challenger is League Two striker Kabongo Tshimanga, who has netted four times as a substitute for Crawley Town during the campaign.
