It was 25 ago today, Celtic brought down the curtain down on one of the most iconic seasons in the club’s modern history.

On May 26, 2001, Martin O’Neill’s side walked out at Hampden Park knowing that victory over Hibernian in the Scottish Cup final would complete Celtic’s first Treble since the legendary Lisbon Lions era when Jock Stein’s side added to their 1966/67 success with another Treble in 1968/69.

What followed was another unforgettable chapter in the club’s history, with Henrik Larsson once again at the heart of it.

The Swedish striker, who had enjoyed a remarkable campaign in green and white, stepped up to the penalty spot to seal a 3-0 victory and secure the final piece of silverware in an extraordinary season.

As the full-time whistle sounded, Martin O’Neill and his players lifted the Scottish Cup, adding it to the league title and League Cup already won earlier in the campaign.

It was a landmark moment for the club, ending a 32-year wait for a domestic clean sweep and setting the tone for an era of sustained success.

A quarter of a century on, that Treble remains one of the defining images of the modern Celtic story: Larsson wheeling away in celebration, Martin O’Neill lifting the trophy, and the supporters inside Hampden watching history unfold.

Celtic have continued to build on the legacy of 2001, winning 20 league titles, 13 Scottish Cups and 11 League Cups, taking the club to 44 major trophies in the 25 years since Martin O’Neill first joined the club.

To mark the anniversary, supporters can relive the highlights from that memorable Scottish Cup final now, including Larsson’s penalty and the trophy lift that confirmed Celtic’s return to the summit of Scottish football.
